Dayton Philharmonic Classical Connections Series 2017-2018

Series Sponsor: The Demirjians and Graeter's

The 2017–2018 Classical Connections Series features four vastly different performances. Artistic Director and Conductor Neal Gittleman breaks down both classic and contemporary pieces, explaining some of the music theory within the piece as well as interesting background on the featured masterpiece. This season Maestro Gittleman begins by taking an in-depth look at the complex music of the brilliant American composer Lou Harrison, with an exploration of his "Estampie" from Suite for Symphonic Strings and Piano Concerto. He examines Leonard Bernstein's biblical and emotional Symphony No. 1, Jeremiah; Vaughan Williams' siren call in A Sea Symphony; and finally, Tchaikovsky's tussle with Fate in his compelling Symphony No. 4.

Classical Connections provides audiences with the opportunity to become acquainted with a specific masterpiece before watching the performance by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. A casual Q&A session with Maestro Gittleman follows each performance in the Wintergarden, along with a scoop of Graeter’s ice cream!
