For those who enjoy their classics along with entertaining context, Neal Gittleman hosts and conducts a slightly new, but very familiar, series: the Demirjian Sundae Classics Series. The format is similar to last season’s Classical Connections Series, but the explanations are a bit briefer, leaving more time for the music to sweep the audiences off their feet. This season Neal takes a closer look at classical music stewards Mahler, Mussorgsky, Bruch, Bernstein, and Brahms.

In March, audiences will enjoy a complete presentation of Tchaikovsky’s beloved Sleeping Beauty with Dayton Ballet. There will be no explanations and insights with this presentation, but rather simply an invitation to sit back and enjoy Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece with a fresh take by Dayton Ballet Artistic Director Karen Russo Burke and live music by the Dayton Philharmonic.

Then in April, for the first time in this concert format, Neal steps out of the classical world and into the brilliance that was The Beatles, with a unique journey into the world of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. As is tradition, each concert on this series comes complete with a Q&A with Maestro Gittleman and a free scoop of Graeter’s ice cream in the Wintergarden following the performance. The Sundae Classics season is available as a five-performance series.
