VIRGIL BOUTELLIS-TAFT violin WEBSITE
Nineteenth century violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim referred to Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor as "the heart's jewel," and he should know - having performed it over 200 times. It is a lovely way to introduce the new Symphony Sundaes Season. Schumann's Symphony No. 2, widely regarded as his greatest, is also on the program. It has a direct tie to Mendelssohn who conducted its premiere in Leipzig in 1846. Neal opens this concert with a delightful and rarely performed Schubert Overture "In the Italian Style."
