Performance at Hobart Arena Features Seasonal Songs and Orchestral Favorites

DAYTON, OH (May 14, 2014) – On Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO), under the direction of Artistic Director Neal Gittleman, will present Hometown Holiday in Troy. The Hometown Holiday program is a long-standing Philharmonic concert tradition. The DPO brings the format to the Schuster Center in Downtown Dayton every several years.

Now, as the DPO expands its regional influence, the orchestra is introducing the program to the historic community of Troy for a special one-day, afternoon engagement. The family-friendly time, date and pricing will make for an attractive outing for families in Troy and the surrounding area.

The program lineup will be similar to the Kettering Health Network SuperPops concerts performed at the Schuster Center on the preceding two days, December 5 & 6, but with a few local twists.

For the first half of the performance, special guest artists Adelee & Gentry, backed by the full, rich sound of the Dayton Philharmonic, will fill the arena with Christmas spirit with their wonderful re-imaginings of classics like Carol of the Bells, Jingle Bells, Dear Boy, and Angels We Have Heard on High, plus Waiting for Christmas (an Adelee & Gentry original).

After intermission, Maesto Neal Gittleman will weave a tapestry of musical themes and styles employing the full orchestra, The Sinclair Community College Concert Handbell Choir (Margaret Dill, Director), and a large Festival Chorus comprised of a half dozen community and church choirs from all over the region.

The program also includes selected music from Nutcracker, both Tchaikovsky's original version as well as a jazzy re-interpretation by Duke Ellington and Dayton native Billy Strayhorn.

Single tickets for the Hometown Holiday at Troy Concert at Hobart Arena go on sale to the public starting Friday, May 16, 2014, and can be ordered by calling the Hobart Arena Ticket Office at (937) 339-2911 or online at http://www.hobartarena.com

About the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance

The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a groundbreaking and innovative merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they are the largest performing arts organization in the community, offering a tremendous variety of performance and education programs and setting a new standard for artistic excellence. Dayton Performing Arts Alliance performances are made possible in part by Montgomery County and Culture Works, the single largest source of community funds for the arts and culture in the Miami Valley. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance also receives partial funding from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency created to foster and encourage the development of the arts and to preserve Ohio's cultural heritage. Funding from the Ohio Arts Council is an investment of state tax dollars that promotes economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohio residents. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is proud to be one of five performing arts organizations in the country selected to receive a three-year "Music Alive" grant from New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras.

About Adelee & Gentry

Sisters Adelee and Gentry Gates have been singing and performing as a duo for the past five years in and around their hometown of West Alexandria, Ohio. Adelee, 21, and Gentry, 19, ”have a polished folk-pop sound that is grounded by a rootsy base but elevated by the self-taught sisters’ unique yet captivating style of two-part harmonies.” (Dayton Daily News – Life + Active Dayton.com) The sisterly collaboration released their breakthrough debut album, “Nice to Meet You...” in March 2012 and their holiday EP “Waiting for Christmas” later that same year. Adelee & Gentry’s unique vocal styling and harmonies are garnering attention by music industry pros such as Billboard 615 Spotlight and Music News Nashville. They have been featured on local TV shows (Living Dayton and Words & Music Nashville) as well as area radio stations.
