DAYTON, OH (June 3, 2015) – On June 20, 2015 at 8 p.m. in the Mead Theatre of the Schuster Center, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, under the leadership of Artistic Director and Conductor Neal Gittleman, will present An Evening with Indigo Girls, the fifth and final concert in the 2014-2015 Dayton Freight Rockin’ Orchestra Series. The DPAA Innovation Partner for this performance and all DPAA performances this past season is the DP&L Foundation—Powering Innovation in the Performing Arts.

Talk about BFFs. Amy Ray and Emily Saliers first met when they were only in elementary school; banded together in high school to perform in and around Atlanta; and, while students at Emory University, started performing at a local bar, calling themselves Indigo Girls. The route from there was fairly prosaic.  They produced their own album in 1987 and received a contract with a major record company shortly thereafter, the first of nine they would produce through 2007.  Today, they own their company, IG Recordings, where they are once again self-producing.  Their latest album release, One Lost Day, is scheduled for June 2015.

The songs in this concert include some of their most treasured tracks, with the Dayton Philharmonic providing beautiful accompaniment to the duo’s magnetic voices.  Together with the DPO, Indigo Girls will present “Love of our Lives,” “Sugar Tongue,” “Power of Two,” “Compromise,”  “Virginia Woolf,”  World Falls,” “Able to Sing,” “Kid Fears,”  “Fugitive, ” "The Wood Song," "Yoke," "Mystery," "Chickenman," “Go,’ “Ghost,” "Galileo," and the crowd-favorite "Closer to Fine,"  a striking song about “being confused but looking for answers and knowing in the end, you’re going to be fine.” (Emily Saliers, talking about the basis for writing the song)

And all of Dayton will certainly be fine when Amy Ray and Emily Saliers take the stage with the DPO on June 20.  Together.  As always.

Tickets for An Evening with Indigo Girls range from $29 to $81 and are available at Ticket Center Stage (937) 228-3630 or online at www.daytonperformingarts.org.  Senior, teacher, student, and military discounts are available at the box office. About the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance
The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a groundbreaking and innovative merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they are the largest performing arts organization in the community, offering a tremendous variety of performance and education programs and setting a new standard for artistic excellence.  Dayton Performing Arts Alliance performances are made possible in part by Montgomery County and Culture Works, the single largest source of community funds for the arts and culture in the Miami Valley. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance also receives partial funding from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency created to foster and encourage the development of the arts and to preserve Ohio's cultural heritage. Funding from the Ohio Arts Council is an investment of state tax dollars that promotes economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohio residents.  The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is proud to be one of five performing arts organizations in the country selected to receive a three-year "Music Alive" grant from New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras.
