GIVING STRINGS ORCHESTRA TO PRESENT SEVENTH ANNUAL CONCERT IN OAKWOOD SATURDAY AUGUST 5 AT 7:10 PM
Concert performed by professional and amateur classical musicians will benefit Project READ
Dayton, Ohio (July 25, 2006) – Saturday, August 5 at 7:10 pm, the Giving Strings Orchestra will present a concert in the 100 block of Lonsdale Avenue in Oakwood for the benefit of Project READ, a local literacy organization. This is the seventh such concert in as many years.
The Giving Strings Orchestra consists of professional and amateur classical musicians from the Dayton area (many are in the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra), the state of Ohio, and the nation. DPO Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds will conduct the orchestra. Included in the repertoire, DPO cellist Mark Hofeldt and his wife, DPO violinist Elizabeth Hofeldt, will perform the Vivaldi Double Concerto for Two Cellos, Strings, and Continuo in G minor RV 531.
Cellist Yo-Yo Ma has donated two signed CDs for a silent auction that organizers Julia and Colleen Judge have arranged to take place during the concert. Julia is a sophomore at Case Western University majoring in nursing. Her sister, Colleen, is a senior at Oakwood High School.
