David L. Pierson Young Musicians Concerto Competition
Saturday, March 18, 2017, 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sinclair College
The purpose of this competition is to identify outstanding talented young musicians in the Dayton metropolitan and surrounding areas, to encourage young musicians to pursue further study, and to stimulate competition among student musicians.
The competition is open to those area high school students who will be in grades 10–12 during the 2017–2018 school year. Concerto auditions are held for piano, strings, woodwinds, and brass. Candidates are judged by the highest artistic standards by distinguished area musicians who judge the preliminary competition. DPO Artistic Director and Conductor Neal Gittleman will judge the finals.
The winner of this competition receives a $500 cash award and is the featured soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra at a Young People’s Concert during the 2017–2018 season. Second- and third-place finalists receive a cash award.
Competition applications will be mailed to school music departments and private teachers in midwinter to early spring.
Contestants must be legal residents of the state of Ohio. Exceptions to this requirement may be made for contestants who are members of Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestras or students of Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra members.
