May, 1969.

Apollo 10 transmits the first color picture of the Earth from space. The last Corvair rolls off the assembly line. The movie Midnight Cowboy with Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman is released. Construction of Walt Disney World begins in Florida.

Then on May 24th, The Who releases their album, Tommy. By utilizing dramatic storytelling conventions borrowed from the world of opera, the album broke new conceptual ground. Rock 'n roll was evolving and maturing. The LP record continued to evolve as well. Praise came from many critics and musicians, even Leonard Bernstein.

This was no obscure art-rock effort. Tommy spun off three popular hits "Pinball Wizard," "I'm Free," "We're Not Gonna Take It," and, like Sgt. Peppers two years prior, expanded rock's potential to be interpreted in exciting new ways.

When highly accomplished rock ensemble Jeans 'n Classics meets the mighty forces of your Dayton Philharmonic in the sonically superior Mead Auditorium powered by the artful arrangements of Peter Brennan, sparks are going to fly.

You will hear The Who's rock opera masterpiece in a whole new light.

Dayton, can you hear me?
