The 2017–2018 Masterworks Season is packed with performances from The Great Ones, the greatest composers of classical music, both contemporaries and those whose works have withstood the test of time. The DPO celebrates the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein, truly one of The Great Ones and one of Maestro Neal Gittleman's guiding lights throughout his career. Bernstein's works are woven through the season, with the incendiary Candide Overture, Symphonic Dances from the beloved West Side Story, and Symphony No. 1, Jeremiah, as just a few examples. Masterworks from other Great Ones, such as Brahms' Symphony No. 1, Mendelssohn's Reformation Symphony, Gershwin's jazzy Concerto in F, Dvořák's Symphony No. 8, and Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony, are all part of this diverse season's dynamic lineup.
