“Come On Along and Listen to the Lullaby of Broadway” with a Colorful Collaboration of The Human Race Theatre Company and The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra

DAYTON, OH (April 18, 2016) – On Friday, May 13, 2016 and Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 8 pm in the Mead Theatre of the Schuster Center, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO) will present the sixth and final concert in the 2015–2016 Kettering Health Network SuperPops Series, Best of Broadway II with The Human Race Theatre Company. The DPAA Innovation Partner for this special performance is the DP&L Foundation – Powering Innovation in the Performing Arts.

As a rule, the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance performs music, dance, and opera. But this May, it takes on the mission once again of promoting another of the performing arts close to our hearts, one that has always been a mainstay of the Dayton arts scene—the theater. The Dayton Philharmonic welcomes back to the stage The Human Race Theatre Company (HRTC) for this very special engagement combining the full Orchestra with HRTC’s vocal stars!

The Artistic Directors of the DPO and HRTC—Neal Gittleman and Kevin Moore, respectively—bring their complementary sensibilities together to bring out the gems spanning the history of Broadway for two spectacularly enjoyable evenings. The first Best of Broadway program presented a few years ago didn’t begin to tap all the best tunes from the stage. So these two premier Dayton arts organizations join together for another sampling of Broadway’s best. Each song being performed comes directly from a show that has won the Tony Award for either Best Musical or Best Score! So DPO and HRTC present their very own “Salute to the Tonys” just three short weeks ahead of this year’s 68th annual Tony Awards ceremony. It promises to be a night as fun and as entertaining as the last time these organizations took the stage together to bring down the house!

Neal and the musicians of the DPO and Kevin and featured artists from The Human Race Theatre will entertain you with music and performances from such Broadway greats as Kiss Me Kate, South Pacific, Gypsy, Hello, Dolly, Oliver!, 42nd Street, Cats, Wicked, Hairspray, Jersey Boys, and a very special surprise guest vocalist in a role reprisal just a few years in the making as Tevye in the beloved Fiddler on the Roof.

The DPO is honored to be working with some of the finest performers from The Human Race Theatre Company, including Resident Artists Deb Colvin-Tener, Jamie Cordes, Marya Spring Cordes, Scott Hunt, Patricia Linhart, Katie Pees, and Scott Stoney. The DPO also welcomes HRTC special guests Jay Pierce and Trisha Rapier. Tracey Bonner will join the production as choreographer for the HRTC performers, and Sean Michael Flowers is HRTC Vocal Director.

The Best of Broadway is two wonderful nights of Broadway’s Best performed by Dayton’s Best –The Dayton Philharmonic and The Human Race Theatre Company. And you’d best be there again to experience an unforgettable night of collaboration of the arts in Dayton!
