Free event features Concert Band, Chorus, Guest Vocalists, Handbell Choir, and…artillery!
Sunday August 19th at 7 pm, Troy Mayors Concerts, Inc. will present its 15th Annual Mayors Concert at Prouty Plaza in the Public Square of Downtown Troy, Ohio. The Dayton Philharmonic Concert Band and Summer Chorus has performed this concert, since the concert’s inception 15 years ago. DPO Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds will conduct a program that includes such diverse selections as Overture to Candide (Leonard Bernstein), Music from A Chorus Line (Marvin Hamlisch), They Can’t Take That Away From Me (George Gershwin), selections from The Music Man (Meredith Wilson), and the War of 1812 Overture (Peter Il’yich Tchaikovsky).
Troy Mayor Mike Beamish will be guest conductor of the His Honor March by Fillmore. Soprano Lee Merrill will sing Gershwin, and Baritone Jamie Cordes will perform Largo al Factotum (Rossini). Featured guests include the Troy First United Methodist Church Handbell Choir and – to provide explosive accompaniment to the War of 1812 Overture – the Ohio 5th Light Artillery.
A benefit of the event is an offer of free parking and reserved seating for the handicapped and their families and friends. Girl Scouts will provide wheelchair assistance to the handicapped as well. The recital is open to the public and free of charge.
Prouty Plaza is located in Downtown Troy; in the event of rain, Hobart Arena will be the recital site.
