August 21 Recital Will Feature Guest Soloist, Conductor, and Narrator
On August 21 at 7 PM, The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Band will perform the works of a wide variety of musical masters at Prouty Plaza in Troy. Patrick Reynolds will conduct, as the band performs classical pieces, Broadway show tunes, and marches, with a sprinkling of Americana.
Baritone William Caldwell, guest soloist and DPO board member, will perform Embraceable You and Can’t Take That Away from Me by Gershwin, and Troy Mayor Mike Beamish will be guest conductor of the His Honor March by Fillmore. Caldwell will also narrate Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland.
The program includes works by Jenkins (American Overture), Bagley (National Emblem March), Bennett (Spiritual and Celebration), Anderson (The Waltzing Cat), Rodgers (Selections from Cinderella), Nixon (Butterfly Parade), Steffe (Battle Hymn of the Republic), Tchaikovsky (1812 Overture), and Sousa (Stars and Stripes Forever).
The recital is open to the public and free of charge.
Prouty Plaza is located in Downtown Troy; in the event of rain, Hobart Arena will be the recital site.
