August 12 Recital Will Feature Broad Spectrum of Musical Offerings
On August 12 at 2 pm, The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Band will delight the public at St. Christopher’s Church in Vandalia with the works of a wide variety of musical masters. DPO Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds will conduct, and John Gorretta – Vandalia-Butler High School Band Director – will guest-conduct, as the band performs classical pieces, Broadway show tunes, and marches, with a sprinkling of Americana.
The program opens with the Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein. Peter Rauch’s Woodland Festival is next, followed by Cantus Jubilante (Shaffer), Cajun Folk Songs (Ticheli), and marches by Berlioz, Holst, and Grainger. Works by Reineke and Wilson round out the first half of the performance.
Following intermission, the DPO Concert Band concludes with the Rolling Thunder March (Fillmore), Amazing Grace (Ticheli), Flight of Valor (Swearingen), American Folk Rhapsody No. 1 (Grundman), America the Beautiful (Ward), and Stars and Stripes Forever (Sousa).
Special Guest Performers from Vandalia-Butler High School include Lauren Peters – Flute (Senior), Kate Bargerhuff – Flute (Senior), Andrea Huist – Clarinet (Senior), Jordan Harrington – Trombone (Senior), Amanda Miller – Baritone (Junior), and Jacob Ruiz – Percussion (Senior).
The recital is open to the public and free of charge.
