August 14 Recital Will Feature Broad Spectrum of Musical Offerings
On August 14 at 2 PM, The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Band will delight the public at St. Christopher’s Church in Vandalia with the works of a wide variety of musical masters. Patrick Reynolds will conduct, as the band performs classical pieces, Broadway show tunes, and marches, with a sprinkling of Americana.
The program opens with Colas Breugnon Overture by Kabalevsky. The Suite in E Flat by Gustav Holst is next, followed by the works of Gillingham and Barker (with Shane Anderson conducting and featuring guests from Vandalia-Butler High School). Show tunes by Jerome Kern and Leonard Bernstein, and the National Anthem March by Bagley round out the first half of the concert.
Following intermission, the DPO Concert Band concludes with the Lads of Wamphray March by Grainger, Ascentium by Huckaby, the American Civil War Fantasy by Bilik, America the Beautiful (Ward), and Stars and Stripes Forever (Sousa).
The recital is open to the public and free of charge.
St. Christopher’s Church is located at 435 E. National Road in Vandalia.
