DAYTON OH (October 17, 2011) – On Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 3 pm in the Schuster Center, one of the area’s favorite Halloween celebrations – PhilharMonster – returns, as the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Neal Gittleman open the 2011-2012 DP&L Family Series with an array of spooky musical treats.
Maestro Gittleman will lead a costumed Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra through a program that includes the Shark Theme from Jaws, DJ Sparr’s Schrödinger’s Cat, and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, with narrator Niki Dakota, Music Director and host of “Excursions” for 91.3 WYSO. We’ll even feature a scene or two of The Bride of Frankenstein (featured in full that evening) on the big screen overhead, backed by the entire Orchestra!
Neal has a tradition of wearing some rather elaborate costumes of his own at the PhilharMonster concert. What will he be this year? We can’t say – we’re sworn to secrecy, but audiences are sure to be amazed!
If you’d like to come in costume yourself, please do! You can join in the DPO’s annual costume contest at 2:30 pm in the Wintergarden of the Schuster Center. Contestants can win DPO concert tickets in three divisions: Ages 3-5, 6-9, and 10 and up. For more information, call 224-3521.
Tickets for the PhilharMonster concert range from $12 – $19 and are available by calling (888) 228-3630 or by ordering on the web at www.daytonphilharmonic.com.
The 2011-2012 Family Series sponsor is Dayton Power & Light.
