DML “Words & Music” Kiosk at National City SuperPops concerts Friday, Saturday night, November 16/17 to offer selections of Garfunkel’s favorite books
This weekend’s National City SuperPops headliner with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday and Saturday evenings, November 16 and 17 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center is vocalist Art Garfunkel, who has been a voracious reader his entire life. Since 1968, Art Garfunkel has been keeping a list of every book he has read – some 967 of them.
In honor of Mr. Garfunkel, the Dayton Metro Library will stock Words & Music – the kiosk it operates in the Schuster Center Wintergarden lobby during Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra concerts – with books selected from an eclectic list of Mr. Garfunkel’s favorites (http:// www. artgarfunkel.com/favorites.html). The 135 books which are Art Garfunkel’s favorites include works by Rousseau, Tolstoy, the Brontë sisters, Saul Bellows, Stephen King, Darwin, and Isaac Singer.
In addition to books from the Garfunkel list, concertgoers and other visitors will be able to select from, and check-out, a wide variety of books, CDs, and DVDs related to the evenings’ concerts, Paul Katz, Dayton history, and classical music. All that one needs to check-out any of the items is a Dayton Metro Library card. Users may return the items to any branch of the library; they may also sign up for – and receive – a library card if they do not have one.
