Saturday, March 31, 7 pm costume contest offers prizes in four age groups for best costume from four John Williams films
On Saturday evening, March 31 at 7 pm in the Wintergarden of the Schuster Center, as part of the two-week long celebration of the film music of John Williams, the DPO is sponsoring a costume contest with prizes for the best costumes representing characters from four films for which John Williams composed the music.
The four films are Star Wars, Indiana Jones (any of the films on this series), Harry Potter (any of the films on this series), and Hook. The DPO will award one prize in each of the following four age categories: 5-12 years old, 13-25 years old, 26-40 years old, and 41 years old and older. Each costume must depict an easily recognizable character from one of the four films; the costume must be original, or presented in an original way; and the wearer must behave appropriately. Costume contest judges include host judge Marsha Bonhart of WDTN/TV 2, Verity Snyder of the Downtown Dayton Partnership, and Denise Rehg of CultureWorks.
First-prize winners in the 41-year-old-and-up category and the 26-to-41-year-old category will each receive a $75.00 gift certificate to Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in The Greene. The first-prize winner in the 13-to-25-year-old category will receive a $50.00 Culture Works Arts Card. The first-prize winners as well as two runners-up in each of these three categories will each recieve a voucher for a pair of tickets to an upcoming DPO concert. The first-prize winner in the 5-to-12-year-old category will receive a Saturday Class Package from K-12 Gallery for Young People on East Third Street. The first-prize winner as well as two runners-up in the 5-to-12-year-old category will each recieve a voucher for a four tickets to the Sunday, April 29 Family Concert A Musical Zoo.
The costume contest precedes the 8 pm Chase SuperPops series concert Heroes and Villains: The Movie Music of John Williams.
