Mancini Magic features vocalist Monica Mancini performing works by her Oscar-winning composer-father Henry Mancini in the Schuster Center
On Friday and Saturday evenings, October 19 and 20 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Neal Gittleman will present Mancini Magic, featuring the breathtaking voice of Monica Mancini, daughter of the late Academy-Award-winning film composer, Henry Mancini.
The program, the first in the DPO’s 2007-2008 National City SuperPops Series, features the amazingly talented Monica Mancini, who will bring a romantic sensibility all her own. She’ll perform songs from her father’s playbook, cinema hits, and great tunes, both nostalgic and new. Her current Concord Records Release, Ultimate Mancini, has topped the charts and earned her two Grammy nominations. Mancini Magic will also include film clips that Monica will present, to set a romantic Hollywood tone for her renditions of her father’s classic songs and orchestral music.
Henry Mancini received 18 Academy Award nominations, earning five Oscars for his scores and adaptations of scores for The Glenn Miller Story, Breakfast at Tiffanys (two Oscars), The Days of Wine and Roses, and Victor/Victoria. Mancini was nominated 72 times for Grammy awards, winning 20, including five for Breakfast at Tiffanys and three for The Pink Panther. He also received two Emmy nominations and won a Golden Globe Award (Best Song) for Darling Lili. His TV credits included The Thorn Birds, Newhart, Peter Gunn, and Remington Steele.
This program is the sixth and final program presented as part of the NCR Made in America Festival, sponsored by NCR and the National Endowment for the Arts. All of the programs in the Festival feature the work of American composers and American guest artists. Tickets $25-$72.
National City is the SuperPops Series sponsor.
