The music of two guest composers drives appearance of internationally known music/dance ensemble Rhythm in Shoes
On Friday and Saturday May 11 and 12 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center, Music Director Neal Gittleman and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra present The Joy of Dance, the final Chase SuperPops series concert this season.
The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Neal Gittleman put on their dancin’ shoes and welcome the Rhythm in Shoes dance troupe to the Mead Theatre stage for The Joy of Dance. Under the artistic leadership of dancer/choreographer Sharon Leahy and musician/composer Rick Good, Rhythm in Shoes presents innovative work that is at once original and recognizable, drawing on traditional forms of music and dance – swing tunes, tap, hoedowns, clogging, waltzes, polkas, and tangos. Musicians Jay Ungar and Molly Mason (Jay is the composer of Ashokan Farewell, the musical centerpiece of Ken Burns’s PBS documentary epic The Civil War) join the DPO and Rhythm in Shoes for a free-wheeling, toe-tapping finale to the 2006-2007 SuperPops season.
Tickets $24 to $71.
