Building 2 is site of competition on Saturday, April 21 from 9 am to 1 pm
On Saturday, April 21 from 9 am to 1 pm at Building 2 on the campus of Sinclair Community College, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will conduct its 40th annual David L. Pierson Young Musicians Concerto Competition.
The purpose of this competition is to identify outstanding talented young musicians in the Dayton metropolitan and surrounding areas, to encourage young musicians to pursue further study, and to stimulate competition among student musicians.
The competition is open to those area high school students who will be in grades 10-12 during the 2007-2008 school year. Concerto auditions are held for piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Candidates are judged by the highest artistic standards by distinguished area musicians who judge the preliminary competition. Music Director Neal Gittleman will judge the finals. The application fee is $25.00. Interested musicians must apply by no later than April 5.
The winner of this competition receives a cash award of $500 and will perform with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra at a Young People’s Concert. Second and third place winners receive $200 and $100, respectively.
Applicants must reside in one of the following counties: Butler, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby, or Warren. Exceptions to this requirement may be made for students who are members of Dayton Philharmonic youth orchestras or students of Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra members.
