Sunday May 27, 5 pm concert at Carillon Park features program of patriotic Memorial Day fare
On Sunday, May 27 at 5 pm at Carillon Park, Music Director Neal Gittleman and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will present a good, old-fashioned Memorial Day weekend celebration concert.
The program opens with The Star-Spangled Banner (Smith-Custer), followed by Variations on America (Ives-Schuman), Hymn to the Fallen (Williams), Adagio for Strings (Barber), and Lincoln Portrait (Copland). Following intermission, the program concludes with Liberty Bell March (Sousa), Spirit of Freedom (Rush), Oklahoma Medley (Rodgers-Bennett), Armed Forces Salute (Lowden), 1812 Overture (Tchaikovsky), and The Stars and Stripes Forever (Sousa).
This concert is FREE; so for good seating it is best to get there early!
While there, guests are encouraged to visit the Park’s 25 historical buildings and interact with the exhibits. It’s a great way to learn about the area’s history and heritage, and – for Sunday, May 27 ONLY – admission to the buildings is FREE. Gates open at 12 noon.
