Bach and More program at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm is last at Victoria Theatre; series moves to Schuster Center for 2007-2008 season
Bach and More, the last program in this season’s DPO’s Demirjian Chamber Orchestra Series is also the final program for the series at the Victoria Theatre. The Friday, April 20 concerts at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm will be the last the DPO will hold in the Victoria venue. Next season, the Demirjian Chamber Orchestra Series moves to the Schuster Center.
A guest soprano, alto, tenor, bass, and the Wright State University Collegiate Chorale – Hank Dahlman, Director – join DPO Music Director Neal Gittleman and the DPO Chamber Orchestra in a presentation of Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 4, a skillfully written festive piece, with much the same musical atmosphere as Handel’s Coronation Anthem No. 3. Bach’s Motet No. 2, The Spirit Helpeth Our Infirmities, is a moving and beautiful affirmation of faith. The jazzy syncopations and dense textures of Eight Lines reveal Steve Reich as a baroque composer for our own time.
Free pre-concert refreshments include coffee and donuts provided by sponsors Boston Stoker and Mercy Siena Retirement Community for the 10 am performance and complimentary pizza appetizers provided by sponsor Boston’s Bistro at the Gypsy for the 6:30 pm performance.
