Friday, March 16, 10 am and 6:30 pm performances feature 11 chamber works conducted by DPO Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds
On Friday, March 16 at 10 am and 6:30 pm, DPO Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds will conduct a program that not only puts the DPO’s Brass and Percussion Sections in the spotlight, but also gives their musical ability a stringent test.
The program opens with Britten’s Fanfare for St. Edmundsbury, followed by Turner’s Casbah of Tetuoan and the Scherzo from the Bruckner-Burum 4th Symphony. Then, the program takes a decidedly international turn, with Pederson’s Hubbub in the Honduras, Senor at the Door, Spanish Water Wheel, and Trombone, Pipe, and Slippers. Mozart’s Duo No. 1 follows, segueing to an exhilarating percussion piece, Peck’s Lift Off. Finally, Cheetham’s Keystone Celebration sets the stage for the musical reincarnation of a literary character in Reed’s Othello.
Tickets $10-$24.
Free pre-concert refreshments include coffee and donuts provided by sponsors Boston Stoker and Mercy Siena Retirement Community for the 10 am performance and complimentary pizza appetizers provided by sponsor Boston’s Bistro at the Gypsy for the 6:30 pm performance.
