Winner of karaoke singing contest featuring Neil Sedaka songs will meet legendary composer/singer/entertainer at Bank One SuperPops Series opener
In an effort to locate a Daytonian Idol, the Dayton Philharmonic is sponsoring Sedakaraoke, a karaoke singing contest and party at Therapy Café, 452 East Third Street. Here’s how it works.
From 9 to 10 pm, contestants will have a one-hour “warm-up” period to sign up to compete and rehearse the Neil Sedaka song they select to perform. The competition runs from 10 to 11 pm, when the actual competition will begin. Three yet-to-be-named celebrities (at release time, we hadn’t yet reached Paris, Nicky, and Britney) will judge the event.
There is no cost to participate in the singing contest and no cover charge. Contestants and members of their admiring entourages can purchase food and drinks from Therapy Café’s wide selection.
Each karaoke contestant will receive an Upper Balcony seat to opening night of the Bank One SuperPops Series at the Schuster Center featuring Neil Sedaka. The contest winner and the runner up will each get two Gallery tickets for Friday night, October 7th’s kick-off performance and – along with winners of WLQT’s “Breaking Up” Contest – have a personal meet-and-greet with Neil Sedaka before the Friday night event.
Dust off those vocal cords, dig up your best ‘70s garb, and join us at Therapy Café for an evening of Sedakaraoke.
