Phenomenal Jazz Vocalist/Pianist Replaces Jane Monheit, Who Is Expecting a Child
The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra today announced that it has selected vocalist/pianist Diane Schuur to perform in the place of vocalist Jane Monheit on May 9 and 10, 2008 for Jazz Dreams, the sixth and final concert in the 2007-2008 National City SuperPops Series. Expecting a child in that same timeframe, Ms. Monheit is unable to fulfill her performance schedule.
Known for her three-and-a-half octave vocal range, Schuur’s remarkable career began at age nine with her first professional gigs. Though blind since birth, she has earned nominations for five, and received two, Grammy® Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist, as well as headlined many of the world’s most prestigious music venues, including Carnegie Hall. Schuur has toured the world and has performed with such greats as Stan Getz, B.B. King, Maynard Ferguson, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Quincy Jones. She has performed countless times on The Tonight Show, at The GRAMMYs, and at the White House.
National City is the SuperPops Series sponsor.
