DAYTON OH – The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra’s 09-10 National City SuperPops Series will continue with concerts titled Benny Goodman’s Big Band Birthday on Friday and Saturday, October 9 & 10, 2009, both performances at 8 p.m. at the Schuster Center.
Joining the DPO and conductor Neal Gittleman will be clarinet virtuoso and Ohio native Ken Peplowski, an internationally-recognized master of the Benny Goodman style, along with the saxophone section from Dayton’s own United States Air Force Band of Flight.
Born 100 years ago in Chicago to poor Jewish immigrants, clarinetist Benny Goodman would go on to become one of the all-time greats of jazz. He cut his first records for the Columbia level in 1933, the same year the Dayton Philharmonic was born.
Performing Goodman’s original arrangements, the music that made “The King of Swing” famous, Peplowski and the DPO will bring the Big Bands back to life in a memorable evening in the Schuster Center’s acoustically fabulous Mead Theatre.
Tickets for the concerts range from $27 – $75 and are available by calling (888) 228-3630 or by ordering on the web at www.daytonphilharmonic.com.
