p>DAYTON OH (April 22, 2010) – The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2009-2010 PNC SuperPops Series will conclude with concerts featuring farewell performances by Dayton’s beloved dance-and-music troupe Rhythm in Shoes on Friday and Saturday, May 7 & 8, 2010, both performances at 8 p.m. at the Schuster Center.
The varied repertoire of Rhythm in Shoes (RIS), with direction by choreographer Sharon Leahy and composer Rick Good, is at once highly original and instantly recognizable. Since 1987, this critically acclaimed body of work has infused the spirit of traditional American dance and music with a thoroughly modern sensibility. Based in Dayton, RIS has toured in 47 states as well as Canada, Japan, and Ireland, pursuing the company’s mission: to engage the world in music and dance.
According to Sharon and Rick, “After 23 years of making music and dance rooted in American cultural traditions, RIS will be heading for the barn following its 2009-2010 Season. It’s been an incredible run and we want to say thank you for sharing these many great years with us. RIS has always been about family and community, and we are grateful that you’ve been part of it.”
The program for the RIS “Grand Finale” with the DPO will include choreography old and new and music from composers ranging from J.S. Bach to Erik Satie. Neal Gittleman, Music Director of the DPO and a frequent past collaborator with RIS, will conduct.
Tickets for the concerts range from $27 – $75 and are available by calling (888) 228-3630 or by ordering on the web at www.daytonphilharmonic.com.
