DAYTON OH (April 25, 2011) – The Dayton Philharmonic’s 2010-2011 Kettering Health Network SuperPops Series will conclude with concerts featuring acclaimed jazz trumpeter and vocalist Byron Stripling in “Satchmo, Fats, and The Duke” on Friday and Saturday, May 6 & 7, 2011, at 8 p.m. both nights at the Schuster Center. Mr. Stripling will be joined by his colleague, drummer Bob Breithaupt. Patrick Reynolds, Assistant Conductor of the DPO, will conduct.
The concert will pay tribute to jazz greats Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, and Duke Ellington in an evening showcasing their greatest hits. Guest artist Byron Stripling garnered widespread acclaim by playing Louis Armstrong in the musical Satchmo: America’s Musical Legend. He has recently soloed with the Boston Pops and the Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Seattle, Indianapolis, and National Symphony Orchestras, among others. A veteran of the big bands, Stripling earned his stripes performing with the Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, and Lionel Hampton Bands. He is currently the artistic director of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.
