Jeffrey Luft

Jeff Luft joined the DPO in 2005 while completing his Master’s Degree in percussion performance at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he also earned his undergraduate degree.

He has performed with the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Louisville, Fort Wayne, Ann Arbor, and Canton Symphony Orchestras.

For two years, Jeff was an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville. In addition to private teaching at home Jeff also operates his own business, Luft Mallets, producing handcrafted timpani mallets for percussionists throughout the world.

He has composed music collaboration with MamLuft & Co, a modern dance company in Cincinnati founded and directed by his wife, Jeanne S. Mam-Luft.

Jeff came to music rather late. Heavily involved in sports until the age of 16, he did not begin formal studies until that year. Drum line and marching band got him hooked, but orchestral music became his passion.

He attended the Brevard Music Festival for three summers and the Music Academy of the West in 2003-2004 where he was awarded a full scholarship plus an additional monetary award for further study of his choosing.

Jeff also is a member of the DPO’s Players’ Committee.
