Dayton, Ohio (October 20, 2009) – In celebration of the Swedish ensemble ARRIVAL’S upcoming visit to Dayton and their performance at the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra’s November 14th Concert, The Music of ABBA, the Orchestra is partnering with Therapy Café, 452 East Third Street, to hold a Halloween happening that combines the outrageous styles of the 1970’s, a karaoke contest, plenty of blazing disco music and dancing, plus prizes courtesy of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO) and the Dayton Racquet Club (DRC). Tickets to The Music of ABBA Concert and DRC $25 dining certificates will be among the most sought-after prizes of the evening.
Prizes will be awarded to karaoke performers who best capture the Seventies feel through style and singing. Awards may be given to single performers, couples or groups, at the discretion of the judges. Door prizes will also be given. As you might imagine, the judges recommend that partygoers perform to the seventies music of their choice. As always, the incomparable Nancy Sell of Nancy’s Karaoke will guide the stage action.
The doors to Therapy Café open at 4:00, dining opens at 6:00, and the karaoke stage will be hitting its stride right around 9:00 pm. There is no cover charge until 9. Even then, Dwaine Wheeler of Therapy Café has set the wayback button for 1970, so the cover charge is only $3! Look for additional seventies-era favorites like the ubiquitous popcorn machine, glittering disco ball and drinks like Harvey Wallbangers.
Why all the excitement? “We’re turning it up to eleven to spread the word about the DPO’s huge day on November 14th which includes the ARRIVAL concert at 8 pm and a fantastic pre-concert party hosted by our own Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association at 6 pm, just before the concert,” says DPO Marketing Director Dave Bukvic. “This fall, we’re tripping back to an era when polyester and gold chains ruled. Once in awhile, the DPO likes to break out a Fifth of Beethoven and boogie down.”
