Sure’n Begorra, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra presents Celtic vocal/instrumental ensemble Cherish the Ladies December 9, 10 at the Schuster at 8 pm
Named for a time-honored Irish jig, Cherish the Ladies has become one of the most engaging Irish ensembles ever. Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds has the envious task of sharing the stage with a five-woman bevy of beauty and talent, whose hallmarks are gorgeous vocals, virtuosi instrumental talents, and captivating arrangements. This powerhouse group combines all the facets of Irish traditional culture and puts it forth in an immensely humorous and entertaining package.
Cherish the Ladies has performed with many of the country’s premier orchestras. On Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10 at 8pm, respectively, during the third Bank One SuperPops Series concert presented by Robbins & Myers, they will favor us with their special brand of holiday magic. The first part of the concert has Patrick O’Reynolds leading the DPO (a.k.a. the O’DPO), with CTL member Joanie Madden providing a pennywhistle solo.
Following intermission, the DPO helps Cherish the Ladies hit its holiday stride with – among others – such tunes as The Wexford Carol, Homesteader’s First Christmas, On Christmas Night, The Holly and the Berry, Ding Dong Merrily on High, The Cat’s Meow, Oh Holy Night, The Ballad of the Fox Hunter, Horn Pipe Dance, The Castle of Dromore, The Distressed Soldier, and The Fairy Reel.
You can be certain that they will bring a touch of the old sod to the new Schuster, for a typically warm yet robust Celtic Christmas.
