DAYTON, OH (September 17, 2019) – On Saturday, October 12 at 8 p.m. in the Mead Theatre of the Schuster Center, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Patrick Reynolds, will present The Music of Chicago, the first concert of the 2019–2020 Dayton Freight Rockin’ Orchestra Series.

Formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, the rock band Chicago started life with a political musical agenda. Every now and then the group would take an experimental shot at the music they created, even going so far as to describe themselves as a “rock and roll band with horns.” With time, their musical style softened, and they produced several hit ballads, followed by two decades in which the hits just kept on coming, making them the leading U.S. singles charting group during the 1970s and placing them second only to The Beach Boys among American bands in successful Billboard singles and albums, with 21 top-ten singles and five number-one albums.

Brass Transit was formed in 2008, its accomplished, award-winning roster intent on paying tribute to the decades-long, multiplatinum songbook of Chicago. Since 2008, Brass Transit has toured North America steadily, dazzling audiences with flawless performances and spectacular attention to detail. Hits including “Saturday in the Park,” “25 or 6 to 4,” “If You Leave Me Now,” “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day” and “You’re the Inspiration” have left crowds in awe, inspiring multiple ovations in venues across the country.

Brass Transit, with their world-class horn section, rocking rhythm section, and superb vocal talent, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra together will transport Dayton right back to the 1970s and the era-defining music of Chicago.

Tickets for Brass Transit: The Music of Chicago begin at $24 and are available at Ticket Center Stage (937) 228-3630 or online at www.daytonperformingarts.org. Senior, teacher and student discounts are available at the box office. About the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance
The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a groundbreaking and innovative merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they are the largest performing arts organization in the community, offering a tremendous variety of performance and education programs and setting a new standard for artistic excellence. Dayton Performing Arts Alliance performances are made possible in part by Montgomery County and Culture Works, the single largest source of community funds for the arts and culture in the Miami Valley. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance also receives partial funding from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency created to foster and encourage the development of the arts and to preserve Ohio’s cultural heritage. Funding from the Ohio Arts Council is an investment of state tax dollars that promotes economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohio residents. In 2013, The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was thrilled to be one of five performing arts organizations in the country selected to receive a three-year “Music Alive” grant from New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is the proud recipient of a 2017-2018 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
