DAYTON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
Arthur Fiedler satisfied a growing interest by the public in hearing the might of the symphony behind light classical and popular songs of the day in an informal atmosphere. The DPO pays an encore musical tribute to the man who made orchestral pops a nationwide sensation! A few highlights from the evening will include Brahm’s stirring Hungarian Dance #5, Offenbach’s compelling Overture from Orpheus in the Underworld, Strauss’s lovely Tales from the Vienna Woods, and the gorgeous Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.
Joining the DPO for Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue is Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez. The internationally acclaimed Martinez made her orchestral debut at age 7. Later, she immigrated to the United States to attend the Juilliard School, where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music. Her interpretations are compelling and her stage presence elegant. The Dayton Philharmonic is thrilled to welcome her back to the Schuster Center stage for this performance.
