DAYTON PHILHARMONIC YOUTH ORCHESTRA

The Magic Circle Mime Company returns to the Schuster Center. Magic Circle, which unites theatrical presentation and orchestral performance, has traveled throughout the United States and Canada, introducing musical concepts to young audiences.

The Orchestra from Planet X brings sci-fi thriller to the Philharmonic stage. What happens when aliens land on Earth? What do they think of Earth music? What does alien music sound like? To answer these questions, Magic Circle performers and the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra explore various musical works by favorite American composers. The program will feature music including Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Hymn” and “Hoe-Down” from Rodeo, Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter Song,” John Williams’s “Flying Theme” from E.T., and Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer.” This program shows young audience members that music is written to represent all elements of everyday life. Your family will leave the Schuster and begin looking for the music in your everyday world!

These aliens want to be taken to our American musical leaders. . . . Join them on the journey!
