7 Ways That You Can See Opera in Your Community This Spring

The Dayton Opera Artists-in-Residence Program was established in 1987 to serve as a professional training program for young singers as a bridge to move from the university or conservatory education experience into the arena of a professional opera company. In addition to their training schedule, the artists work together to perform education and outreach programs in our community, helping to ensure the future of this magnificent art form in our area.

Keep reading to discover ways you can see these artists in your community this spring!

Ticket required
Schuster Center

Randell McGee, baritone
Neal Gittleman, conductor
Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra
Dayton Ballet School Ensemble

Joseph Haydn: Finale from Symphony No. 104 in D Major
Ludwig van Beethoven: Finale from Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21
Antonín Dvořák: Slavonic Dances
Harry T. Burleigh: Spirituals
Igor Stravinsky: Concerto in E-flat “Dumbarton Oaks”, I. Tempo giusto
Zoltán Kodály: Finale from Variations on a Hungarian Folksong “The Peacock”

In this family-friendly concert, we pay homage to teachers—and the students they nurture—by highlighting some famous student-teacher composer duos. Haydn was Beethoven’s teacher; Dvořák was Burleigh’s teacher; and Nadia Boulanger, who conducted the premiere of Stravinsky’s “Dumbarton Oaks” Concerto, was Maestro Gittleman’s teacher! Join us and raise your hands for those who impart wisdom and shape our futures.
