Our goal at the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is to help you fall in love with the arts, but have you ever fallen in love AT the arts? Music can tell some ravishing and romantic stories, and the grandeur of the Schuster Center creates the perfect date-night atmosphere.
Now, if you like to attend performances by yourself, with you sister, with your grandson, or with your coworker, that’s cool too! But there are some experiences that are truly special when the person that you fancy is by your side.

Season Opening Celebration: Prince Orlofsky’s Grand Masquerade
September 16 and 17, 2023 | Schuster Center
Who doesn’t love a lavish party? The 2023–24 season opens with a bang: a grand masquerade!
All three art forms—DPAA’s Opera, Philharmonic, and Ballet—take the stage in an evening of extravagant celebration. At the heart of the performance is Act II from Strauss’s comic opera, Fledermaus (Revenge of the Bat). The scene is Prince Orlofsky’s party, where disguises and deception abound, and the champagne never stops. Join the party—you never know who is going to show up!
Swan Lake
February 16-18, 2024 | Schuster Center
Set to Tchaikovsky’s romantic score (performed live by the Philharmonic), Septime Webre’s Swan Lake is a perennial favorite, featuring gorgeous sets, beautiful costumes, and dramatic choreography that includes one of the most famous scenes in ballet. Swan Lake tells the doomed love story of Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette, a captivating tale of magic, deception, and heartbreak—right in time for Valentine’s Day.
Star Wars A New Hope: Film with Orchestra
October 14 and 15, 2023 | Schuster Center
This experience takes a movie date to a whole new level!
In this intergalactic epic, Luke Skywalker joins forces with an unlikely cast of characters to restore peace to the galaxy. Luke discovers his destiny during the struggle, which includes a rescue mission to save Princess Leia from the evil Empire. The Philharmonic performs John Williams’ Academy Award-winning score live, accompanying the film on the big screen. Grab your lightsaber and join us for a special cinematic experience unlike any other.
Puccini’s Tosca
April 20 and 21, 2024 | Schuster Center
Puccini’s Tosca is a thrilling roller-coaster ride of political intrigue, passion, and betrayal, filled with some of the most ravishing music in opera. A feast for both the eye and ear, this truly grand opera will satisfy opera lovers, new and old, with magnificent singing, exquisite sets, and sumptuous costumes.
Tosca isn’t a “happily ever after” story, but the lovers’ passion of our two protagonists will surely melt your heart.
The Nutcracker
December 8-10 and 15-17, 2023 | Schuster Center
Create a lifetime of memories with your partner during the most magical time of year at The Nutcracker. Performed with live orchestra, the beloved holiday tradition returns to the Schuster Center. Travel with Clara as her mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer sweeps her away to a dreamy Land of Sweets full of mischievous rats, brave soldiers, darling lambs, a Sugar Plum Fairy, life-size confections, and, of course, a dashing Cavalier.
Windborne’s Music of Whitney Houston
