DAYTON, OH (April 19, 2019) – Dayton Opera is calling all singers to audition for the 2019-2020 Dayton Opera Chorus on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 6:00pm–9:00pm at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Avenue in Kettering, OH.
Singers auditioning for this professional, paid chorus are asked to prepare two pieces: one in a foreign language and one in English. The selections do not have to be from the opera repertoire. Auditions are open to all voices, and an accompanist will be provided at no charge. Artistic Director Thomas Bankston and Chorus Master Jeffrey Powell will hear all auditions. Auditions must be scheduled in advance. To schedule an audition or receive further information, please contact Dayton Opera Artistic Administrator Milena Treer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“The Dayton Opera Chorus is such an important part of our productions at Dayton Opera,” said Thomas Bankston, Dayton Opera Artistic Director. “Because the members of this wonderful, professional ensemble come from our community, they are what really put the ‘Dayton’ in Dayton Opera productions. Side-by-side on stage with the principal artists we bring in from across the United States, Dayton Opera choristers play a large role in bringing great opera to Dayton.”
Those selected for Dayton Opera Chorus may perform in one or more of the following 2019-2020 Titans Season productions: Haydn’s Creation (September 21 and 22, 2019), Puccini’s beloved La Bohème (November 15 and 17, 2019), Rossini’s delightful La Cenerentola (February 28 and March 1, 2020), and the historical Going for Baroque! (April 24 and 26, 2020). All performances will be held on the Mead Stage of the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton.

About the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance
The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a groundbreaking and innovative merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they are the largest performing arts organization in the community, offering a tremendous variety of performance and education programs and setting a new standard for artistic excellence. Dayton Performing Arts Alliance performances are made possible in part by Montgomery County and Culture Works, the single largest source of community funds for the arts and culture in the Miami Valley. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance also receives partial funding from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency created to foster and encourage the development of the arts and to preserve Ohio’s cultural heritage. Funding from the Ohio Arts Council is an investment of state tax dollars that promotes economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohio residents. In 2013, The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was thrilled to be one of five performing arts organizations in the country selected to receive a three-year “Music Alive” grant from New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is the proud recipient of a 2017-2018 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
