DAYTON, OH (August 23, 2017) – Dayton Opera is calling all singers to audition for the 2017-2018 Dayton Opera Chorus on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Avenue in Kettering, OH.
Singers auditioning for this professional, paid chorus are asked to prepare two pieces: one in a foreign language and one in English. The selections do not have to be from the opera repertoire. Auditions are open to all voices, and an accompanist will be provided at no charge. Artistic Director Thomas Bankston and Chorus Master Jeffrey Powell will hear all auditions. Auditions must be scheduled in advance. To schedule an audition or receive further information, please contact Pam Eyink at (937) 224-3521 x1091.
“The Dayton Opera Chorus is such an important part of our productions at Dayton Opera,” said Thomas Bankston, Dayton Opera Artistic Director. “Because the members of this wonderful, professional ensemble come from our community, they are what really put the ‘Dayton’ in Dayton Opera productions. Side-by-side on stage with the principal artists we bring in from across the United States, Dayton Opera choristers play a large role in bringing great opera to Dayton.”
Those selected for Dayton Opera Chorus may perform in one or both of the following 2017-2018 The Great Ones Season productions: Rossini’s sparkling comedy The Barber of Seville (March 2 and 4, 2018) and Puccini’s magnificent, sweeping masterpiece Turandot (May 18 and 20, 2018). All performances will be held on the Mead Stage of the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton.
