DAYTON, OH (Jan 3, 2019) – The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA) is thrilled to present the 2019-2020 Titans Season of the Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera and Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. The season was announced to great fanfare on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2018 to over 2,000 patrons at the Schuster Center in Dayton, Ohio.
The three DPAA Artistic Directors, Thomas Bankston, Dayton Opera; Karen Russo Burke, Dayton Ballet; and Neal Gittleman, Dayton Philharmonic, as well as DPAA President and CEO Paul Helfrich, have worked together to prepare a season full of groundbreaking and engaging performances that reveal bold new dimensions in every art form.
Subscriber Ticket Packages for all DPAA Titans Season traditional series went on sale on Monday, December 31, 2018. Current subscribers will receive their renewal packages and will get first claim to their current subscription seats, but only until February 28, 2019, when all unsold seats will be released for sale to the general public. Tickets to eight Signature and Special Events–Haydn’s Creation, New Year’s Eve: Bella Italia!, Apollo 13 in Concert, DPO with Amjad Ali Khan, Handel’s Messiah, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Star Wars: Episode IV, A New Hope in Concert, and Raiders of the Lost Ark in Concert–may be purchased only by series subscribers until the single-ticket on-sale date, currently scheduled for June 1, 2019. These events may also be used as add-on Wildcards for the Masterworks Nine, Recital Series, and Family Four Alternate subscriptions packages.

THE 2019–2020 DPAA SPECIALS AND SIGNATURE EVENTS:
As a leader in performing arts in Southwest Ohio and the nation’s only combined Ballet, Opera and Philharmonic, the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA) strives continually to bring wholly new experiences to the stage.
Signature Events are those that combine the power of all three art forms. The DPAA is proud to present two Signature Events in 2019–2020 that showcase the fruitful results when Dayton Opera, Dayton Ballet, and the Dayton Philharmonic collaborate to produce groundbreaking performing arts. All three art forms will take the stage in September for a spectacular performance of Haydn’s Creation, as well as on December 31 for the annual New Year’s Eve celebration that continues to be the toast of the town.
Special Events are those that are usually purchased apart from packaged series. In addition to the annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will present five additional unique experiences that are sure to leave audiences speechless. In October, the DPO invites classical sarod master Amjad Ali Khan for an exciting evening of ‘East meets West’ in Dayton. Then, family and friends gather in the warmth of the Schuster Center for an evening of nostalgia for A Charlie Brown Christmas.
For the remaining three special events, the Dayton Philharmonic is thrilled to present three spectacular evenings in the Schuster with three blockbuster films, with the musical soundtrack provided entirely by the DPO. This unprecedented trip through the world of motion pictures takes off in September with Apollo 13 in Concert. Then, in June, it’s a journey to “a galaxy far, far away” with Star Wars: Episode IV, A New Hopein Concert. Finally, it’s a wrap for the entire DPAA Season of Titans at the end of June in a quest for the Ark of the Covenant with Raiders of the Lost Ark in Concert.
THE 2019–2020 DAYTON OPERA SEASON:
For the 2019–2020 Titans Season, Dayton Opera Artistic Director Thomas Bankston has selected the perfect combination of works that highlight opera in the different forms it can take on stage.
The Season Opening Spectacular, produced as a stunning collaboration with Dayton Ballet and Dayton Philharmonic, officially opens the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance season in September 2019. The forces of these three magnificent art forms join to present Haydn’s Creation in a bold, groundbreaking style.
Fully staged productions of Puccini’s beloved La bohème and Rossini’s operatic presentation of the classic fairy tale Cinderella (La Cenerentola) follow in November and February. This season’s Star Recital brings us a Metropolitan Opera Star and protégée of Plácido Domingo, soprano Angel Blue. The season closes with a glorious tribute to the Baroque composers, who started the art form of opera as it is known today, with Going for Baroque!

THE 2019–2020 DAYTON BALLET SEASON:
Artistic Director Karen Russo Burke leads the talented company of Dayton Ballet as they explore new horizons in dance in the 2019–2020 Titans Season.
In September, Dayton Ballet takes the stage alongside Dayton Opera and Dayton Philharmonic in the Season Opening Spectacular with a striking interpretation of Haydn’s Creation. This event will be offered on three series: Dayton Opera, Dayton Philharmonic Masterworks, and Dayton Ballet. Then in October, Dayton Ballet presents a repertory performance of ballets fitting for the autumn season entitled Phantom Dances.
The December holidays wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Land of Sweets in Tchaikovsky’s beloved The Nutcracker, which returns once again for ten incredible performances. February brings highlights from two acclaimed and well-known works to the stage on one program with Love Vignettes: Carmen and Butterfly Suite.
The season closes in April with a varied collection of beautiful dances, including a a new work from critically acclaimed choreographer Ma Cong, a vignette of A Streetcar Named Desire, and much more in a program called Innovations.

THE 2019–2020 DAYTON PHILHARMONIC MASTERWORKS SEASON:
Classical music is presented in a panorama of options, all sure to delight both novice and expert, in Dayton Philharmonic’s flagship series. For starters, the Premier Health Masterworks Series opens with a groundbreaking presentation of Haydn’s Creation. Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will join Dayton Opera, along with Dayton Ballet, to present this exciting masterwork in a one-of-a-kind presentation unique to the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance.
The Masterworks Season brings a calendar full of dynamic soloists and major classical compositions to the fore, under the leadership of DPO Artistic Director and Conductor Neal Gittleman. This 2019–2020 season, the DPAA is thrilled to celebrate Maestro Gittleman’s 25th year at the helm of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra!
Maestro Gittleman and the DPO also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of the true titans of classical music, Ludwig van Beethoven. Over the next two years—the 2019–2020 season and the 2020–2021 season—the DPO will perform a Beethoven symphony cycle, playing all nine symphonies, as well as works that connect to Beethoven’s symphonies and also great works by Romantic Era composers who were deeply influenced by Beethoven.
In addition, exceptional works for piano, violin, cello, and oboe will be performed by artists both long established and on the rise. Guest artists, including Stewart Goodyear, Michael Chertock, Gavin George, Mark Kosower, and DPO’s own Concertmaster Jessica Hung and Principal Oboe Eileen Whalen,grace the stage with their mastery of their instruments and their impeccable musicianship.
The Masterworks season is available as either a nine- or six-concert subscription series.
THE 2019–2020 DAYTON PHILHARMONIC RECITAL SERIES SEASON:
The DPO Recital Series continues as one of the best values in performing arts. It includes two chamber programs, Strings and Piano Salon and Concertmaster’s Choice, at the Dayton Art Institute, specially designed by Concertmaster Jessica Hung. These programs make for two lovely, intimate Sunday afternoons of music in the gorgeous Mimi and Stuart Rose Auditorium at DAI.
In addition, this series will include a sparkling Star Recital with vocalist Angel Blue at the Schuster Center in March, along with a C-tier Wildcard that can be used for any DPAA event throughout 2019–2020. The Recital Series is available as a four-performance series.
THE 2019–2020 DAYTON PHILHARMONIC FAMILY SEASON:
The DPAA understands that an appreciation for the arts starts at an early age and lasts a lifetime and remains committed to offering programs to allow parents, grandparents, and caretakers to share the performing arts with their children through programs that encourage and deepen that appreciation.
The DP&L Family Series is a great way to introduce the mystery and majesty of classical music, dance and song to the youthful mind. The annual PhilharMonster Halloween concert is a Dayton favorite, where spooky meets silly in a program for the entire family to enjoy. The series also includes a voyage into The Musical World of Harry Potter, performed with the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (DPYO) under the baton of DPYO Conductor Patrick Reynolds.
In December, the DPO invites families into Dayton’s beloved holiday tradition with a journey to the Land of Sweets in Dayton Ballet’s The Nutcracker. Then, in March, the DPAA opens the world of opera to the young and young-at-heart with Rossini’s operatic presentation of a classic fairy tale La Cenerentola (Cinderella). An alternative version of the Family Series substitutes a Wildcard for this opera experience, designed for families with children under six.

THE 2019–2020 DAYTON PHILHARMONIC SUPERPOPS SEASON:
Leading vocalists, celebrated instrumentalists, splendid orchestral arrangements, from Broadway to Hollywood and from Ireland to Cuba, the 2019–2020 Kettering Health Network SuperPops Series has something for everyone to enjoy.
The season opens with a visit to The Great White Way with Something Wonderful: The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein. Then it’s time to celebrate the holidays with a return visit of good friends from Ireland for a Celtic Tenors Christmas.
In January, acclaimed vocalists Denzal Sinclaire and Dee Daniels join the DPO for Unforgettable: Nat & Natalie, honoring the music of the father-daughter duo of Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole. March takes SuperPops back to its roots with the festive flair of Arthur Fiedler in Fiedler’s Favorites II, featuring Gershwin’s blockbuster for piano, Rhapsody in Blue.
Then, the DPO turns up the heat in the Schuster Center with Havana Nights, featuring the Mambo Kingsalong with captivating vocalist Camille Zamora. The season closes in May with a throwback to the thriving days of Sin City, Las Vegas, and music from the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr., with The Rat Pack, Symphonic!

THE 2019–2020 DAYTON PHILHARMONIC ROCKIN’ ORCHESTRA SEASON:
The Dayton Freight Rockin’ Orchestra Series is THE musical crossroads where rock meets orchestra, a celebration of “music that shaped a generation” performed by guest bands together with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. The season begins in October with a return of the powerful and talented guest band Brass Transit with a symphonic tribute to The Music of Chicago.
In November, Rockin’ Orchestra fan favorites Jeans ’n Classics return, and they bring with them a little Strange Magic with an evening of The Music of ELO. In January, the New Year starts off in just the right groove with the Queens of Soul, with a Tribute to Aretha Franklin and music from many other R&B ladies, from Tina Turner to Whitney Houston to Adele, who have dominated the charts over the last 50 years.
Then, the DPO breaks new ground with an incredible Night of Symphonic Hip Hop with acclaimed artist Wyclef Jean, founding member of the 1990s sensation The Fugees. Although “you can’t always get what you want…you might find you get what you need” in March when the DPO presents The Music of the Rolling Stones. May closes the Rockin’ Orchestra Season with a performance that celebrates pop music’s “Solitary Man” with a special performance honoring the prolific singer-songwriter Neil Diamond in a concert called simply Super Diamond.

The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a groundbreaking and innovative merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
