Louis Proske

Orchestra Musician

Louis Proske recently celebrated his 40th year with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, joining in 1978 as a member of the first violin section.

He began piano lessons at age 5 and the violin at 9. Lou earned a bachelor’s degree from the university of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Conny Kiradjieff.

As with other members of the orchestra who began in 1978 or earlier, Lou has played in concerts under the direction of all four DPO Music Directors. He has also performed as a substitute with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

A native Cincinnatian, Lou taught instrumental music at Ursuline Academy during the 1980s and private violin and viola lessons from 1975 to 2000.

Today his day job is as a self-employed piano technician, although that career started on a part-time basis in 1975.

Lou also served as the player’s delegate to the Regional Orchestra Players Association (ROPA) for 5 years from 1995 to 1999.

He is an avid sports fan, enjoying Major League Baseball in the summer and college basketball in the winter.
