Paul and Susanne Weaver Chair
Lucas Song joined the Dayton Philharmonic cello section in 2018.
He is currently pursuing his Masters degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with Ilya Finkelshteyn, and he is principal cellist of the CCM Philharmonic Orchestra. Prior to coming to Cincinnati, he studied at the University of Michigan with Anthony Elliott and attended many music festivals, including the National Orchestral Institute, Innsbrook Festival, and Credo Chamber Music Festival.
In addition to performing, Lucas is a passionate teacher. He earned his teacher certification during his time in Michigan, and he taught in Ann Arbor public schools and in summer camps for youth in Detroit for several years. A personal dream of his is to see classical music be spread to more diverse audiences. He firmly believes that music has the ability to cross boundaries and create relationships across dividing lines.
In his free time, he loves to play basketball, spend time with friends, watch Michigan sports, and be active in his local church community.
