Randell McGee is an operatic baritone from St. Louis, Missouri. Randell received his start performing as a professional opera singer with Union Avenue Opera performing in several opera choruses and performing his first role as the Jailor, Carceriere in Puccini’s opera, Tosca. From there, he has performed with Opera Theatre of St. Louis as the Usher in Rigoletto, Fraternity Brother/Lay About Man/Adult James in the world premiere of Fire Shut Up in My Bones by Terence Blanchard. Randell has performed with Cincinnati Opera in the world premiere of Gregory Spears’ opera, Castor and Patience covering the roles of West, Cato, and Watchman in 2022. In 2023, Randell returned to Cincinnati Opera and performed in their production of Puccini’s opera, Madame Butterfly performing as the Imperial Commissioner. Randell has competed in the notable competition, the Met Auditions and received three Encouragement Awards receiving them in the years 2016, 2020, and recently in 2024. Randell McGee has trained as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, an Apprentice Artist with Sarasota Opera, and in the summer, will be performing with Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist. Being intrigued with new works, Randell has performed in the workshop of Gregory Spears’ opera, The Righteous performing the role of Jacob and Nathaniel Stookey’s and Elsa Davis’ new work, Bulrusher performing the role of Logger with Opera Fusion. Randell earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Webster University studying with Prof. Carole Gaspar. Randell is grateful for the many performance opportunities that God has blessed him with throughout his career and is looking forward to many more performances to come!
