The Competitions
David L. Pierson Concerto Competition
The purpose of this competition is to identify outstanding talented young musicians in the Dayton Metropolitan and surrounding areas, to encourage young musicians to pursue further study, and to stimulate competition among student musicians. Contestants will be in grades 10–12. The preliminary round will occur in the morning of March 1. Finalists of the Concerto Competition will be announced following the preliminary round and will perform at the 2 pm concert. The final round will be open to the public and judged by Neal Gittleman, Artistic Director of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
The High School Vocal Competition
The High School Vocal Competition program was established in 1973 by the Opera Guild of Dayton to award scholarships to outstanding young people. Contestants will be in grades 11–12. Winners for the competition will be selected after the preliminary round is finished. The HSVC winners will perform during the 2 pm concert on March 1.
The Tri-State College Vocal Competition
The Tri-state College Vocal Competition (established in 1989 for Ohio) expanded to three states in 2006 by the Opera Guild of Dayton. 6 finalists were selected to compete in the finals round of the Tri-State College Vocal Competition. They will compete during the 2 pm concert on March 1.
