About The Program
The first Chamber concert of the season features three beautiful pieces. Haydn, the father of the string quartet, delights with his “Fifths Quartet,” a dramatic, playful, and surprising piece that is sure to captivate. Our String Principals will then perform Dvořák’s beloved “American Quartet,” composed during his time in Iowa, where he blended American musical influences with his distinctly Czech style. The final piece and highlight of the program is Paul Wiancko’s “Lift,” a contemporary work that takes another step forward, envisioning what Dvořák might have written if he had embraced modern jazz and popular idioms.
