The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Shares the Gift of Music with over 4,300 Students Across the Dayton Region with Its Annual Autumn Young People’s Concert on October 30

DAYTON, OH (October 25, 2019) – On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, over 4,300 students in grades 4 through 7 from 55 schools and homeschools across the Miami Valley will attend the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra’s annual autumn Young People’s Concert, under the direction of Conductor Patrick Reynolds.

This year’s autumn Young People’s Concert, entitled “Musical Postcards from America,” takes a musical journey highlighting the natural beauty, innovators, and immigrants of our rich American culture. The program includes works by Dvorák, Shostakovich, Grofé, Copland, and Ives.

This concert will feature the winner of the 2019 Young Musicians’ Concerto Competition, Daniel Dorsey, who is currently a junior at St. Xavier High School. The concert will also feature dancers from Dayton Ballet II, Dayton Ballet’s pre-professional company of dancers.

To introduce each piece, six students from area schools will read postcards from the composers to help our audience make even deeper connections to the music. Our six student readers are Nyle Atiq, Alexis Bumah, Chavin Medina, Sophia Rapson, Abriella Ruby, and Sophia Shaker.

The DPO Young People’s Concerts are generously supported by Mr. Charles D. Berry, the Community Foundation for Kettering, the Charles E. Hoffman Fund of the Dayton Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Merz, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hone, The Troy Foundation, and Vectren.

Each year the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is proud to reach almost 75,000 children and their families through concerts, in-school presentations, and participatory programs. For more information on these programs aimed at providing unique opportunities for children and their families to access the arts in the greater Dayton area, visit www.daytonperformingarts.org/education.

About the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance
The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a groundbreaking and innovative merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they are the largest performing arts organization in the community, offering a tremendous variety of performance and education programs and setting a new standard for artistic excellence.  Dayton Performing Arts Alliance performances are made possible in part by Montgomery County and Culture Works, the single largest source of community funds for the arts and culture in the Miami Valley. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance also receives partial funding from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency created to foster and encourage the development of the arts and to preserve Ohio’s cultural heritage. Funding from the Ohio Arts Council is an investment of state tax dollars that promotes economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohio residents. In 2013, The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was thrilled to be one of five performing arts organizations in the country selected to receive a three-year “Music Alive” grant from New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is the proud recipient of a 2017-2018 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
