DAYTON, OH (September 20, 2018) – On Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 8 pm in the Mead Theatre of the Schuster Center, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor Neal Gittleman, will present the first concert in the 2018–2019 Kettering Health Network SuperPops Series, My Fair Broadway: The Hits of Lerner and Loewe. The Dayton Philharmonic will be joined on stage by three talented vocalists from the Great White Way: Nat Chandler, Alicia Hall Moran, and Eric van Hoven.

The first Vista of the SuperPops series is that of nostalgia and romance. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance has planned an evening featuring the music of Alan Lerner and Frederick Loewe, the composer/lyricist team responsible for some of the most memorable musicals of the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s.
When Lerner and Loewe met in 1942, it didn’t take long before they began creating some musical gems. Five years later in 1947, they had their first Broadway hit with Brigadoon. And that fantastical play was only the first of their roaring successes, including such smash hits as Paint Your Wagon, My Fair Lady, Camelot, and Gigi (which was first a film and then adapted for the stage). Few people can say that they haven’t heard a Lerner and Loewe composition. Who hasn’t whistled “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” or “Almost Like Being in Love”?
This October, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Conductor Neal Gittleman, will fill the Schuster with everyone’s Lerner and Loewe favorites, such as “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “The Rain in Spain” from My Fair Lady; “Camelot” and “If Ever I Would Leave You” from Camelot; “They Call the Wind Maria” from Paint Your Wagon; “Say a Prayer for Me Tonight” from Gigi; and “There But for You Go I” from Brigadoon.
Joining the DPO on stage for this tribute to this dynamically creative duo are three incredible vocalists who have enjoyed robust performing careers on stages across the United States.
American actor and singing sensation Nat Chandler enjoys an exciting career on Broadway, in concert, and opera. On Broadway, he appeared in the title role of The Scarlet Pimpernel and in Children and Art. Other career highlights include Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Hal Prince, touring the United States opposite Sarah Brightman in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and recent performances as King Arthur in Spamalot, Fred/Petruchio in Kiss Me Kate, and Prince Danilo in The Merry Widow. Mr. Chandler frequently appears in Broadway Pops concerts with leading symphony orchestras around the country.
Mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran is a multidimensional artist performing and composing between the genres of opera, art, theater, and jazz. Ms. Moran made her Broadway debut in the Tony-winning revival of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, starring as Bess on the celebrated twenty-city American tour. “Moran finds the truth of the character in her magnificent voice,” said the Los Angeles Times.
Eric van Hoven has performed leading roles in opera, operetta and on Broadway. He made his Broadway debut starring in Hal Prince’s production of Candide. He has also performed with many notable opera companies worldwide, such as the New York City Opera, Portland Opera, Opera Hawaii, Nevada Opera, Lake George Opera and the Santa Domingo Opera. Mr. van Hoven has starred in Terrance McNally’s Masterclass and was seen as Nanki-Poo in the world premiere production of The “Hot” Mikado, produced by Huntington Theatre and Northshore Musical Theatre in New England.
This sparkling trip down Broadway promises to leave Dayton exclaiming, “Thank Heaven for Lerner and Loewe and the DPO!”
