Company Auditions

The Dayton Ballet is currently seeking professional dancers for the 2022–2023 Season.

Female Dancers: 5’3″ to 5’5″
Male Dancers…5’9″ to 6’1″

There are currently two male dancer contracts open for the 22-23 Season.

In-Person Auditions

Due to COVID-19, we will NOT be holding in-person auditions at this time.

Online Auditions

Audition materials will only be accepted electronically. All audition materials may be sent to the Dayton Ballet’s Artistic Director Karen Russo Burke. Applications are due by March 30, 2022.


Please provide a résumé and photo. Your résumé must include your date of birth, height, and two references with contact information. There is no registration fee. Dayton Ballet holds the right to release dancers from the audition after barre. Dancers will be notified after March 12 if they are invited to come in and take class with the company.

Audition Requirements

A video, without special editing, consisting of the following, performed in leotard and tights for women and tight-fitting dance attire for men:

  • A short classical variation drawn from the standard repertoire, danced in pointe shoes by female applicants showing turns and jumps. This can be recorded in a studio or from a performance.
  • A short contemporary variation (that could consist of something drawn from the repertoire, phrases from classwork, or an applicant-created work) that illustrates the applicant’s range of movement different from that demonstrated in the classical variation. Females can be in flat slippers.
  • 2–3 minutes of barre work, danced in soft shoes.
  • 3–5 minutes of centre work that includes adagio, pirouettes, petit, and grand allegro, danced in pointe shoes by female applicants.
  • For male dancers, demonstration of partnering skills and tours.
  • Two professional reference contacts.

Note:  Dancers who audition by video may be asked to visit Dayton to be evaluated in person.

Dayton Ballet Company Details

  • All performances take place in union theaters.
  • The 2022–2023 Season will include The Nutcracker, repertory performances, and full-length ballets.
  • All performances of The Nutcracker will be accompanied by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • Dayton Ballet may also perform with the Dayton Opera, as programming allows.
  • Contract weeks for 2022–2023: TBD.
  • Health insurance offered.

The Next Step Fund: After one year’s residency, Dayton Ballet dancers may enroll in scholarship-funded online courses at Sinclair Community College. Click here for more details.
